How do I set up an estimate appointment and what can I expect at the appointment?
To schedule an estimate appointment, you can either contact us by phone or email which you will find on our Contact Us page within this website. Megan will return your call, or email, as soon as possible to schedule an estimate appointment. In general, the estimate appointment can take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. At the appointment, Scott or Kyle will measure the area you intend on fencing, discuss product and style options, as well as installation in addition to provide you with some background information on who we are as a company.
We also bring our showroom to you! Our mobile showroom has all of our product literature as well as physical product samples for you to view. After meeting with you, we will send your estimate back via email within three to seven business days once meeting. Your estimate will include an aerial view showing the layout of your fence, a picture of the fence being quoted in addition to 3D specifications, along with a complete material list, and contract terms and conditions. In addition, you will receive a “What To Expect” PDF to help explain the fence installation process and how we operate our business.
What products and / or packages do you offer?
We offer a variety of products ranging from chain link and wood, to PVC and steel ornamental iron. On our Fence Options tab, you can find more information about fence styles and products along with pictures. Feel free to also visit our Suppliers tab, which provides you with access links to many of our suppliers’ websites with a wealth of knowledge and information.
At Leading Edge fences, we offer three packages: the Leading Edge package, the Deluxe package, and our Custom Fence package. We are happy to go over what each package entails at your estimate appointment.
How do I determine where my property lines are?
Prior to installation, we set up a final layout with you to confirm the final dimensions of your fence in relation to the property lines, discuss any last questions you may have, go over gate hardware, warranty, etc. At this appointment, which usually occurs about 3 to 5 days before installation, we will use a plot map along with a metal detector to locate property pins. As long as we are able to find all pins, a survey is not required. We will then string out and mark your property lines, in addition to your fence lines, at the layout appointment so that you don’t have to be available the day of install if you cannot be. This ensures 100% accuracy before the fence goes in.
Do I need a building permit?
If you reside in the City of Madison, a building permit is not required for the City of Madison. If you reside in another city or township, you will need to check your local ordinances. We do have a licensed Paralegal on staff and do offer these services at an additional charge if you so choose. As a service, we also check local ordinances and building codes for fencing rules and guidelines. If you have a HOA (Home Owner Association), you will need to provide those guidelines to our salesman and we are happy to provide any supporting documentation that may be required for approval.
Do I need to call digger's hotline?
No. We will contact Digger’s Hotline for you. We do this just before the layout appointment. That way, at the time of layout, we can determine where utility lines are running and if that will result in any additional charges due to hand dug holes. Digger’s Hotline does not mark any private utilities such as landscape lighting, pool utilities, private propane lines, etc. You will be responsible for having any private utilities marked prior to fence installation.
How long will fence installation take once started?
The duration of your fence installation will depend on how big the fence is and what we are installing. In most cases, for a typical backyard, installation is completed within 1-2 days. At the time of signing your contract and committing to us, we will provide you with a tentative installation date in addition to the anticipated duration of the project.
What are the payment terms and conditions? Do you offer financing?
At the time of signing your contract, a 50% down payment is due. The remainder of the balance will be due upon completion at which time we will provide you with a final invoice, along with a warranty folder. We do not offer any financing at this time.
Should I notify my neighbor of fence installation?
Although it is not a requirement, we highly encourage you to notify your neighbor of your intentions of fence installation. Many neighbors will appreciate you notifying them in advance and will appreciate the value and beauty fences offer to the property and neighborhood. However, there are always individuals who may get upset and oppose fence installation. In these situations, it is best to get the details worked out prior to fence installation in case any boundary or property lines are in dispute. Conflicts between neighbors can be daunting so it’s best to be polite and address the issue before anyone’s feelings get hurt.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. For vinyl chain link products, in addition to PVC or vinyl, and steel ornamental iron fences, you will receive a material warranty from the manufacturer. Proof of this is given to you upon completion of your fence in your warranty folder.
For all non-maintenance fence products such as PVC or vinyl and steel ornamental iron, you will receive a 5 year labor warranty.
For chain link, vinyl chain link, and wood fences, you will receive a 2.5 year labor warranty.
Do you offer different kinds of gate latches and hinges?
Yes. At the estimate appointment, your salesman will be happy to sit down and review options with you based on what your needs are. We have standard options, to child and pet safety options, etc.
Who will be installing my fence?
Good question! At each and every install, either Kyle (the owner) or your salesman will be on site for the duration of the installation. This allows us to have the best and finest quality control in the industry and takes out any potential for dissatisfaction. Our fence foreman are all skilled tradesman who have many years of industry experience under their belt!

Another great question! If you view our Testimonials tab, which is updated monthly, you can find many customer testimonials. We also welcome you to view some of our installed fences and would be happy to set up an appointment for you to personally meet a satisfied Leading Edge customer!
